Assistant Professor of Politics, Brandeis University

I am an assistant professor of political science at Brandeis University.  I am currently working on a book manuscript that investigates the role of motherhood in the American political context. Specifically, I am examining how presidential candidates have historically employed the rhetoric and images of motherhood to frame their electoral appeals to female voters.  To understand why this mode of appeal has endured, I also examine the effects of motherhood on the political attitudes of women.  At Brandeis, I teach courses in American politics, women and politics, political behavior, and research methods. I received my Ph.D in political science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2007.  Prior to my graduate training, I earned my B.A. from the University of Michigan and worked in the U.S. Senate for Senator John Breaux (LA).
